Not exactly an article but I just discovered that Care2.com has a site where you can click for a cause for free everyday and that cause will receive funds by Care2.com’s sponsors. So click the link, find the cause of your choice and make a difference without hurting your wallet
Labor Day was Monday and I feel that in the United States we have become so happy to have a holiday a.k.a. a day off of work that we forget to reflect on the reasons why we have a day off in the first place. Labor day is a celebration of those who work hard all year long but do not forget about those who do not have jobs to take a labor break from or those who have jobs where they work even when everyone rests. Finally, as this article highlights do not forget about the unions or people that made it possible for us to work at a good wage for decent hours…well generally speaking ignoring pay equity issues that still exist for women and minorities.
This is a great song that highlights the disgrace of the United States ranking 37 in the world for health care yet being number 1 for tanks and planes. Now if only someone would do a song about us being 68th (give or take a ranking or two) for national female political representation…we could make an album of it.

Gotta watch this. A rare moment of bi-partisanship in Congress. I am afraid that moments such as this will be few and far between as the partisan nature of the Legislative Branch becomes more of the norm.

W.H. objects to Ad Invoking Obama’s Kids
I posted the original article discussing these ads the other week, see Links of the Week 7 August 2009. I definitely see why the W.H. objects this, I also see why the children of presidents are off limits, however I can’t help but think about the validity of the argument PRCM is making in the ad. I wonder if this would have gone differently if the PRCM tried to obtain some permission form the First Lady’s Office to use her children in the ad especially since the girls are not visually present in the ad. The First Lady is supportive of organic foods and attempted to start an organic garden so she could have been more open than in other cases.
This is a New York Times Magazine Article so its LONG, 9 computer pages, but its a good article filled with good information. Valarie Jarrett may be my new political role model.

NOW Celebrates Landmark Confirmation of Sonia Sotomayor to Supreme Court
“Judge Sotomayor will bring more federal judicial experience to the court than any justice in 100 years, and more overall judicial experience than anyone confirmed in the past 70 years…Sixteen years passed between the confirmations of Ginsburg and Sotomayor, and three men were elevated to the high court during that time…NOW calls for every open seat on the Supreme Court to be filled by a woman until there are four, if not five women justices.”

Food Fight! 8-year old girl targets Sasha, Malia
The argument in this article is hard because targeting politicians’ kids is not cool. But the point is valid. Children in ritzy well to do public or private schools get choices. The rest have unhealthy food that is slowly killing them (I’m passionate about the connection between what is put in food i.e. chemicals, excess sugar and preservatives and disease)

I say Twitter as I feel its more intellectually stimulating. I also think that Twitter helps you connect with your future while Facebook helps you connect with your past.
