‘Good ol’ boys’ in Warren’s way?
I have to say that I feel that the White House is doing more lip-service in its response: We have put more women than any other administration and the first law President Obama signed was about women [paraphrased statements from the administration via the article]. I like President Obama but I feel more and more that these moves were more strategic looking to 2012 than personal desire. It could be true that President Obama wanted to put these women in place personally first but I do not believe for one second that he or someone in his campaign camp was not thinking about 2012 when they decided to make these moves especially in the case of appointing two female Supreme Court justices. I could almost hear the 2012 talking points when I read about the two nominees.

I read two articles recently that really have me concerned especially since my oldest niece is now 7 years old. These articles discuss a recent NY Time article about Puberty and Younger girls, see below for all three links. I try to not be preaching to people and just express my opinion but this issue hits home because after living abroad for a year my body badly reacted to many of the hormones and chemicals placed in US food. Furthermore, after removing these chemicals and hormones from my diet I noticed a significant change in my body shape and form so to my readers please read the links below and consider taking hormones and chemicals out of your diet as it does make a difference.

If not see you in late August when my Links of the Week will return to their normal muli-lingual mostly English & Spanish format.

Labor Day was Monday and I feel that in the United States we have become so happy to have a holiday a.k.a. a day off of work that we forget to reflect on the reasons why we have a day off in the first place. Labor day is a celebration of those who work hard all year long but do not forget about those who do not have jobs to take a labor break from or those who have jobs where they work even when everyone rests. Finally, as this article highlights do not forget about the unions or people that made it possible for us to work at a good wage for decent hours…well generally speaking ignoring pay equity issues that still exist for women and minorities.
This is a great song that highlights the disgrace of the United States ranking 37 in the world for health care yet being number 1 for tanks and planes. Now if only someone would do a song about us being 68th (give or take a ranking or two) for national female political representation…we could make an album of it.

OFA Blog: Remembering Senator Ted Kennedy
Rest in Peace Senator Kennedy! Thank you SO MUCH for your years/decades of hard work. This clip is from the 2008 Democratic National Convention. I was so moved by him during that week. I wish I would have paid more attention to his work and commitments sooner. I know that he and his work-style will be greatly missed! We need more Senators like him! I can’t remember the last time I cried over the passing of someone that was not directly connected to me – he was that kind of public servant!

7 Reasons Why the Republican Party Will Win Big in 2010
This blog post is written by a GOP supporter but I do think some of the points he addresses are either merited or something the DNC needs to think about as 2010 approaches.
I didn’t think the Town Hall antics would reach my home state of Delaware but sadly it did. An interesting article about those who still do not believe that President Obama is not a US Citizen. I wonder if they would be satisfied if Senator McCain became president considering that he was born on a US Base that is US soil according to law but he was not born in one of the fifty states. Though what is more important is for the US to find out what are some of the Birthers grievances that is causing them to act out so strongly – I think if we can get to the root of this we can end this “movement.”

Finances
So as I was reading an old NYTimes article Sunday I came across an article about financial advise for recent graduates and though I graduated college 5 years ago I decided to check out the article. Well Beth Kobliner, Ramit Sethi and Madison Nipp all answered questions from people dealing with finances and I learned A LOT. So please click on that article and follow these people, if you are on Twitter, or buy their books or read their blogs. I saw a few other articles on the NYTimes website and decided to link all of them here. I hope you learn something and take steps towards financial stability.

Quote of the Week
“Being white and male is seen instead as a neutral condition, the natural order of things. Any “identity” — black, brown, female, gay, whatever — has to be judged against this supposedly “objective” standard. Thus it is irrelevant if Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr. talks about the impact of his background as the son of Italian immigrants on his rulings — as he did at his confirmation hearings — but unforgivable for Sotomayor to mention that her Puerto Rican family history might be relevant to her work.” from A Sotomayor Sense of Justice.
