Klobuchar Remarks on sexism in Sotomayor hearings

Sen. Klobuchar is one of my favorite senators. I heard her in a hearing last year and appreciated her frankness. I hope she continues to speak for the people and holds on to her unique senate style. This link is a link to Emily’s List’s new Blog Read My Lipstick but a link to the full article is there.

Women, Power and Politics – NOW on PBS

In March, I volunteered for the Center for American Women in Politics‘ Ready to Run political training. During that time I had the honor of hearing and meeting PBS Senior Correspondent Maria Hinojosa. She is an amazing woman and I am so happy about her work at NOW on PBS.

Last September, Maria Hinojosa did a special Women, Power and Politics that focused on women and politics around the globe and in the United States. Her story goes to New Hampshire, Rwanda and Chile. I finally had a chance to watch this story and was impressed with the coverage.

Chile’s 1st Female President

So here is to something closer to my Fulbright project. Chile had the second round of their presidential election today and of the top two candidates one was a woman, Michelle Bachelet. She was in the lead after the first round and I just read a few minutes ago that she is now Chile’s first female president. I’m so happy for her. But man when will the US wake up and do something about women in politics on a national government level. So many countries are making us look really bad on this matter. Even the DR has had a female VP and Bachelet was Secretary of Defense before being elected. We, the USA, are like 60ish in the world when it comes to females in parliament. Ok yes we have had two female Secretaries of State and one of them being black but we still have some work to do.
